World’s largest gathering of 1979-1986 Mustangs & Capris!

Northwest Foureye Barbecue

Veni, vidi, vici – NW Four-eyed BBQ!

The much ballyhooed third annual Four-Eyed Barbeque Northwest finally went down last Saturday, August 19th. Eight Mustangs and nine Capris made the trek to Neil and Nelson Knutson’s big ol’ field in Arlington, WA, to see and be seen at the world’s largest gathering of four-eyed Foxes. We feasted on steakburgers, salmon, and all the fixins, shot the breeze non-stop, and examined and admired seventeen examples of the finest from Our Father who Art in Dearborn.  There were eight FEP members present, and a bunch of non-(perhaps soon to be?) members. FEPpers in attendance were:

Seth (83coupe)

Bill (billthecougarnut)

Nelson (Schoolboy)

John (Realmongo)

Doug (Laredo)

James (jelliott510)

Lee (f4fntm)

Neil (WHTLTHR79RS)

The weather was gorgeous; 80+ and not a cloud in the sky all day. Us pale, thin-skinned rain belt folk didn’t know how to act. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was reminded why vinyl seats went the way of the dodo.

The field where the event was staged fronted on a major thoroughfare; many people honked, waved, revved, and otherwise acknowledged us as they passed.  Pretty cool.  Unfortunately, one young lad (who happened to be driving an import) was so caught up in the excitement, he neglected to watch the road ahead after revving his (fart-can equipped) car and rear-ended a pickup truck. Yep, it happened right in front of us. We showed our appreciation with hoots, clapping, and whistling.

Without further ado, the pix:

This is Helen, Neil's neighbor, with her 79 hatch powered by a I6; are those pre-79 Capri hubcaps? Car also has the rare (in my experience) high-back buckets.

John came from Marysville in his unusual 81 Capri RS with I6/SROD T-roof, and was instrumental in assisting Neil with the BBQ setup, etc. (thanks, John!).

Straight out of Arlington, Neil's son Nelson (FEP "Schoolboy") and his '82 Capri RS, 5.0/4spd he bought at a charity auction.

Tom from Marysville with an '82 GT, 5.0 and SROD of course. Neil reports that Tom has a few other four-eyes as well.

Here's Seth (FEP "83coupe") from Battleground, WA with his '85 5.0/T5 coupe. Seth brought up James (FEP "jelliott510"). James' '84 SSP notch is still recovering from basket-case status, but will be up next year from Vancouver, WA - 212 miles one way. Foureye lovers for sure!

Jessica and her clean '83 Mustang vert with V6/auto power. Jessica is one of Neil's "chase-down" stories: when he followed her all the way home in Marysville to give her a flyer, she chewed him out for scaring her. After many apologies and an explanation, all was forgiven, and here she is!

One of our old-timer attendees was Harlan, who had his '81 Capri 2.3 equipped with baby moons, a hitch, and eye-catching Omaha Orange paint.

Camas, WA is home to this '84 Capri RS turbo owned by Doug (FEP "Laredo"). That makes Doug the long-distance winner, edging out Seth and James with 223 miles! Car still has original paint and TRXs - rumor mill said it might be for sale...

John (FEP "Realmongo") rescued this '84 GT/stick from roadside abandonment, and it is looking good. Mmmm, T-roof...

Jarrod and his dad Marty (FEP: "Mustang Marty") came over the hill in Jarrod's very rare '79 Mustang turbo notch. The original car had MADS, so they swapped on an '82 GT nose, and threw in a Pace Car hood to complete the unique look; paint can't be far behind.
